I was born in 1936 and moved to Cornwall in 1974. At first I painted in a broadly representational style although my instincts were telling me to look beyond the obvious outward appearance of the powerful landscape that had brought me here. Over the years I experimented with a variety of techniques and mediums to evoke the special qualities of the region with its dramatic coastline, eroded and textured surfaces, muted colours and ever changing weather. I later began to incorporate many everyday symbols and fragments of text into my work , their random use usually dependant on the energies and emotions of a particular moment in painting.
